Polished
A reflective surface produced by grinding and polishing. It brings out the stone's colour and pattern. Suitable for interiors, façades, memorials and countertops. Not suitable for outdoor walking surfaces, as wet polished stone is slippery.

Gloss-honed
A finely ground, semi-gloss finish between polished and honed. The colour is rich, with softer reflections than a polished surface.

Honed
A smooth, matt ground surface without gloss. Lighter in colour than polished stone. For interior floors, stairs, façades and furnishings.

Flamed
Flame treatment releases surface mineral grains through thermal expansion, creating a rough texture that improves slip resistance. Commonly used for outdoor slabs, stairs and kerbs. Lighter in colour than polished stone.

Bush-hammered
An evenly textured surface produced by bush hammering, offering improved slip resistance. A traditional finish for stairs, terraces and façades; the terraces and stairs at Finlandia Hall feature bush-hammered Oulainen Black.

Split
A natural surface created by splitting stone. Rough and varied in texture, used for setts, walls, solid stone elements and visible kerb faces.

Shot-blasted
An evenly rough surface created by steel shot blasting. Finer and more uniform than a flamed finish, with colour closer to the stone's natural tone.
